Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please contact me.
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help with a wide range of conditions or problems such as anxiety, depression, lack of confidence, pain management, stopping smoking etc.
Hypnotherapy is considered to be a complimentary therapy.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis and psychotherapy. It has been proven to be very effective at introducing change into our lives.
Hypnosis is a method of inducing a trance. There are many ways of induction from rapid trance to progressive muscle relaxation techniques.
Trance is a perfectly normal and natural state of consciousness. We all enter into trance many times throughout the day.
In session work, the hypnotherapist will guide the client using speech into a relaxed and altered state of consciousness. The client is always in control and may leave the trance state at any time under their own will.
Psychotherapy is sometimes called a talking therapy and involves a conversation with a trained listener who can assist with making sense of and trying to change things that are bothering you.
I offer a FREE online (Zoom) initial consultation which usually lasts around 50 minutes. We will discuss the changes you want to make in your life and I’ll explain how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help.
I’ll also provide a brain based explanation of how we think and why sometimes we get stuck and are unable to move forward in the way we want to.
I’ll also explain how I work and what you can expect from future sessions. It is then entirely your choice if you decide to proceed.
A typical session begins with you recalling all the positive things that have happened since we last met and what you have noticed is different. Solution focused questioning is used to steer the mind into the direction of change and what progress is being made towards your preferred future.
We also look at possible next steps for change and sometimes use visualisation to ‘try out’ what this change would look and feel like.
After this we perform trance work where you can relax into the wonderful experience that so many clients enjoy. In trance your mind can focus on and absorb the earlier discussion in the session and use the parts that it finds most helpful.
Trance is something that we all frequently experience in our daily lives. Ever been so engrossed in a book or a film that you didn’t hear what’s going on around you? Well that is a trance, a natural and normal state.
Trance is a hyper focused state of attention and when we are in trance we remain in complete control of our thoughts and actions. Trance permits access to our subconscious mind where we can present positive ideas and suggestions. Whether we act on these suggestions is largely governed by our own morale codes and beliefs. You cannot be made to do something against your will whilst in a trance.
For many people knowing that trance is a safe, normal, everyday state allows them to thoroughly relax and gain enormous benefit from the experience.
The number of sessions required varies from person to person and depends on what you hope to achieve and how quickly those changes occur. Most people will begin to notice changes immediately. Sometimes the changes may go unnoticed until someone else notices a change within you.
Stop Smoking is generally one session. For fears and phobias only 4 sessions tend to be required whereas anxiety and stress related conditions tend to take between 6 – 12 sessions.
We will discuss and agree your individual requirements during the initial consultation.
